On Saturday, September 26, the first-ever “Pad Palooza” was hosted by the ladies of Sew*Quilt*Share at Gateway Church. Since female students in many third world countries miss a week of school each month because they lack access to feminine hygiene products, the main purpose of the event was to cut and sew reusable cloth feminine pads for Mission Possible to distribute in their Christian Schools in Haiti.
We are happy to report that a total of 377 pads were sewn that day and well over 300 cut out! Prior to the event, S*Q*S ladies had sewn 700 pads and an additional 1,580 were shipped to Gateway from all over the United States and from as far away as Australia! The ladies of S*Q*S rejoice that this gift of love will directly affect the opportunity for 265 precious young women in Haiti to receive a Christian Education.
An additional purpose for “Pad Palooza” was to open the doors of Gateway Church and invite women in our community to connect with us. We are so thankful that more than 50 women of all ages attended, many drawn to the event as a result of the article which appeared in The Courier! It was a joy to see women talking, laughing with each other, and working in unity toward a common cause. We pray that seeds were sown which will draw women in the community into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
Thank you to all who attended Pad Palooza, especially the volunteers who sacrificed their time to make this event a success. Special thanks also to the Gateway Staff and Mission Board for stepping out in faith and investing in a dream we call the Sew*Quilt*Share Outreach Ministry. To Him be all the glory! (Eph. 3:20-21)
If you sew or can handle a pair of scissors, catch the vision and join us for the next Sew*Quilt*Share meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th. If you are unable to attend but would like to be part of this outreach ministry, please visit Sew in Peace for more information and bless others by sewing at home. We would love to connect with you!
