Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. - Hebrews 13:17 (ESV)
Most folks don’t understand the importance of church membership these days. Many believe that attending a church (somewhat) regularly is the equivalent to being a member. But is that the case?
Whenever this comes up in a conversation, I usually quote the Hebrews verse above and then ask two questions. First, who are the spiritual leaders that you are submitting to? And, second, who do you think I, as a pastor, will give an account for?
I recently came across an article which was helpful. In fact, the author asks the same two questions that I always ask!
So give it a read and ask yourself: Who are the leaders that I’m submitting to? And who will give an account to God for the shepherding of my soul?
