The Necessity of the Gospel in Worship: Part 2

I could point to so much Scripture as a source for how it is only through the sacrifice of Jesus that we have the ability to worship, but one verse sticks out to me. Hebrews 10:22 says, “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” I would encourage all to read that whole chapter to let this truth sink in. We can never worship our Great God if we do not see where we have come from as sinners. We are to draw near to God in worship knowing that we are sinners in need of the saving blood of Jesus, and once we have that knowledge, we are drawn more deeply into worship! If we live our lives in the light of the Gospel, all of our lives will be worship!

Draw near to the Lord, there is no sin out of His reach.

“Going through the motions doesn’t please you, a flawless performance is nothing to you. I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered. Heart-shattered lives ready for love don’t for a moment escape God’s notice.” (Psalm 51:16-17 MSG)
