Momentum Youth Conference

Written by: Adam Borsay, Youth Director

Many adults have incredible memories of enjoying summer camps or mission trips when in their teen years. Often best friends are made on those excursions, with significant spiritual growth encountered. For many years, Gateway Church has focused our big trips for our youth on our annual Journey over Christmas break and a mission trip every other summer with our high schoolers. This summer, we are hoping to start a new tradition for all students entering into 7th grade through graduating seniors by attending the Momentum Youth Conference held at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.

Momentum is a youth trip that our youth director, Adam Borsay, has attended a number of times in the past while serving as a youth pastor at other churches. It is a 5 day conference full of amazing teachers, worship leaders, games, and sports tournaments that is a blast for students to attend with their friends while getting challenged to grow in their faith. One of the highlights is the “Your Day, Your Way” outreach event. Each visiting youth group is assigned an outreach opportunity where the students go into local communities to have gospel centered service projects where they have an opportunity to share the Gospel with the people they are serving. One year Adam’s group served at a family festival where they assisted in setting up in a local park and the students got to invite children and their families to talk about Jesus and the hope he gives!

This year, Pastor Mark Clark is one of the main speakers who happens to be one of Hannah Otley’s favorite teachers. Willie Robertson from the Duck Dynasty family will also be sharing his testimony. Outside of main sessions, the students are provided with dozens of breakout topics taught by national leaders covering important issues like, “How do I share my faith at school”, “Why can I trust the Bible?”, and “How do I discuss tough topics with my friends or family?”

Our goal is to take a team of students and adult volunteers to Momentum from July 16-21. Our hope is that they will grow in their relationships with one another and with Christ as we pursue being disciples who make disciples! If you have any questions or want to come along please let Adam know!
