While addressed to mothers, this article applies to all adults that have stepped into the role as a parent. The goal of parenting isn’t to hold on tightly and parent your child throughout adulthood. Rather, similar to the work of missionaries, a parent/guardian’s role is to ‘work themselves out of a job’. This does not mean parenting a child until they are 18 and then checking out. Instead, as your child grows and matures, you as the parent should joyfully step into a more advisory role in their lives.
This week’s article provides a sweet reminder that ultimately, your children belong to God. As you raise your child, you are an example of what it looks like to let God be ultimately in control of all things-including the lives of your children. As you slowly give up control to God, you encourage your child to turn their eyes towards Jesus and follow his lead.
